India is set to become the first country to allow people to buy meat pie and other vegetarian delicacies for a fraction of the price in the wake of the beef ban.
The new law allows the public to buy any vegetarian food item in stores or online for a minimum of Rs 5 per kg, the Times of India reports.
It is the first time India has allowed online purchases of meat pies, meat pies with meat and meat products, and vegetarian meat pies.
It is the latest in a string of new laws introduced by the Narendra Modi government to tackle beef and dairy consumption and increase food safety.
The ban on beef and other meat products was implemented on July 6, with an additional two-month ban on dairy products coming into effect on January 1.
